COOL HOOPS 3-ON-3 TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS
1) Teams are guaranteed at least 4 games.
2) Each team must register by the entry deadline. There are no refunds. Additions and/or changes will not be permitted after the entry deadline. I.D.’s will be issued to players and must be worn at all times.
3) Eligibility of players is the player’s responsibility. Players may be on only one roster. Violators will be disqualified.
4) Teams using illegal players or false information will be disqualified. This rule will be enforced from the point of discovery. No replays.
5) Teams must be at their court location at the scheduled time even if games are running behind. A five-minute forfeit time will be strictly enforced.
6) Only those scheduled to play will be allowed to occupy the court at game time.
7) The tournament director has the final say on any and all protests, rules, regulations and bracketing.
8) The Tournament Director has the right to shorten games if play is running behind.
9) Any player or team may be removed from the game at the discretion of the referee for abusive behavior, flagrant fouls, rough play, fighting, cursing, etc. and may be disqualified from the tournament at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
10) A coin flip will determine which team receives the ball first.
11) Baskets made are 1 point each, unless made behind the two-point line then it is worth 2 points.
12) The ball will change possession after each scored basket. The ball must be checked at the designated throw-in spot.
13) Each team is allowed one (60 second) time out per game.
14) After all violations and fouls, the ball will be checked from the designated throw-in spot out front.
15) Jump balls will go to the defense.
16) The ball must be taken past the two-point line on each change of possession. Failure to do so will result in loss of possession. Taking back means that the ball and ball handler’s entire body must be behind the two-point line. The two-point line for 3rd grade will be 15 feet, all other division are 19 feet 9 inches.
17) Basket heights for 3rd grade will be nine feet. All other divisions are ten feet.
18) 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade division’s play to 15 points – win by 2 or first team to 18 points. All other divisions will play to 20 points, win by 2 or first team to 25. In both divisions, the team ahead when the clock expires, is the winner (team does not have to win by 2, if time runs out).
19) There is a twenty-two minute time limit. If the score is tied at the end of regulation, overtime will be sudden death. The first possession in overtime is determined by a coin flip.
20) If the player is fouled while shooting and makes the basket, the basket will count and possession changes, if the fouling team has less than 5 fouls. If the fouling team has 5 or more fouls, including this foul, then the shooter receives a one-point (not two-point) free throw attempt. Possession then changes whether or not the basket is made.
21) If a player is fouled while shooting and misses the basket, the player may choose to 1) shoot from the one-point free throw line and if basket is made, possession changes; if basket is missed, the shooter keeps possession, OR, 2) shoot from the two-point line and possession changes whether or not the basket is made.
22) On the fifth team foul (non-shooting) and all-subsequent team fouls, the player fouled may choose to 1) shoot from the one-point free throw line and if the basket is made, possession changes; if basket is missed the shooter keeps possession, OR 2) shoot from the two-point line and possession changes whether or not the basket is made.
23) If a foul is ruled flagrant or meant to cause harm, the player fouled will shoot one free throw and keep possession of the ball. Player committing the foul must sit for four total points scored by either or both teams.
24) In case of a technical foul, any player from the opposing team will shoot one free throw and keep possession of the ball. The player committing the technical must sit for four total points scored by either or both teams. Two technicals in one game will result in the immediate disqualification of the game.
25) No dunking. No hanging on the rim. The basket will not count, a technical given and the player will be ejected from the game. Save your dunks for the dunking contest.
